can you install a NVIDA or ATI video card if you have an intel one?
i want to play TES 5, and i don’t want to waste my money getting a new video card that i can’t install. i have an intel extreme graphics and oblivion can’t run on it. so i was thinking of buying a NVIDA video card, but i was wondering if it could be installed into my computer. please help.
Depends on several things really. There are MANY MANY different types of cards and appropriating slots that you use to plug them into.
PCI (not express) – Is the basic, graphics card plug in. any and all computers should have this.
AGP – AGP are SPECIFICALLY graphics card slots. they serve no other purpose. Computers manufactured between 1999-2003ish should have this.
PCI Express- PCI express is the new slots that computers have these days. These give the best bandwidth for faster games and graphics. All computers made after 2004 should have this.
Depending on your computer, it should have one of these slots.
These are NOT compatible with eachother. If your computer has AGP and you try to put a PCi express, it won’t fit.
Any graphics card can be installed on any motherboard, as long as it has the right slot. ATI or NVida both work.
If your computer has just PCI slots, then you MAY not be able to play Oblivion, because PCI slots have lower bandwidth speeds. I don’t know.
Any other Slot should be fine.
Also, don’t ever go cheap on the graphics card. A card may have really high clock speed, but low Memory speed, which is really a marketing gimmick, for people who don’t know much about electronics.
